What to Prioritize When Searching for a Home

The home buying experience can be both exciting and stressful. There’s a lot to consider, especially what you want to prioritize. If you’re trying to find a home in Silicon Valley, think about your budget, the location, the amenities you’d like your home to have, and the type of realtor you want to work with.

When you’re ready to get started, contact me, Jamie Lennon, to schedule a consultation and start searching for your dream home!

There are a lot of different costs associated with buying a home. There’s the down payment, closing costs, mortgage, and so many other things in between. When you’re ready to find a home, start by looking at your budget. What can you afford? What have you saved for a down payment? Have you been pre-approved for a loan yet? It’s best to set a range for your budget so you have some wiggle room for upgrades or repairs later on.

What does your daily commute look like? Do you want to be close to shops and restaurants or would you rather live in a quiet neighborhood? What school district do you want to be in for your kids? Do you want to stay close to family and friends?

Choose a location to look for your home where you’ll feel comfortable, safe, and happy with your surroundings. Check out different neighborhoods and parts of town. Make note of what you do and don’t like about these areas so you know what to look for.

Similar to the location of your home, the amenities that your home offers should make you feel at ease and like you belong there. Make sure that when you find a home, it has enough space for you, your loved ones, and all of the activities you enjoy. Don’t forget, you can always make upgrades and renovations later — just make sure you find a home with the bones to support your design ideas.

Last but not least, it’s important to find a realtor that you enjoy working with. The home buying journey can range anywhere from a few weeks to several months, so find a realtor who understands and prioritizes what’s important to you. They should be patient, readily available, and regularly updating you on available properties you might like.
